No detail is too small or too mundane to escape my compulsive scrutiny. The making of the film, the making of the opening title sequence, the making of the sets, the making of the costumes, the making of the hair, the making of the makeup, the making of the craft services table, the making of the coffee. This is kind of a contradiction when you consider that I have been known to obsessively watch and re-watch, in addition to the film itself, every single featurette included on a single, double, triple and quadruple disk DVD. I don’t know what’s wrong with me- it’s just that, after enough trailers and enough behind the scenes specials, and enough news coverage, even a movie I was anxiously counting down until premier day loses its place in the “must see” pecking order. Just to see the uncomprehending stares I’m met with. Sometimes I like to let slip at parties that I still haven’t seen Phantom Menace, nor do I feel that I need to. They usually get lumped into my “to eventually rent” list, and I end up never getting around to seeing them. Ummer blockbuster, holiday blockbuster, it’s all the same to me.
